W.P. Puppet Theatre Society (WPTS) is looking for a creative marketing professional to join our team!

Our mission is to provide puppetry infused learning opportunities and performances inspire, challenge, empower, support expression, and encourage empathy in our audiences and participants

Skills & Aptitudes:

  • Marketing and communications degree or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Intermediate to advanced user of Google, Gmail, MS Word and Excel, and strong experience with web-based programs.
  • Professional work experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Previous experience with Constant Contact newsletter or similar.
  • Previous experience with maintaining WordPress web sites.
  • Friendly, mature attitude, emulates WPTS’ core values.
  • Outgoing, people orientated person.
  • Able to pick up new information and learn quickly.
  • A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • An eye for design and aesthetic in the context of marketing materials.

Previous experience that will help you succeed in this role:

In addition to the skills and aptitudes listed above you will be successful in this role if you have had experience with all or most of the following:

  • Strong understanding of both traditional and digital marketing mediums and strategies.
  • Managing competing priorities, frequent follow-ups.
  • Working from home.

Job Description

In general, this position will be in charge of and will execute, all marketing, communications and media relations for WPTS.

Working in consultation with the artistic director, general manager, and our contract graphic designer, they will help build brand awareness and promotion of WPTS in Calgary, Alberta, and Western Canada.

Specifically:

  • Create, implement, and monitor a digital marketing including a social media strategy.
  • Keep website content fresh and informative.
  • Supplement digital marketing with traditional marketing and promotions when appropriate.
  • Support and potentially undertake, event planning and tour coordination for our public and school programs.
  • Potentially support sponsorship and donation fundraising,.

Work Environment:

  • May 1 – June 30, 2020: Approx. 10 to 15 hours per week.
  • After June 30, 2020: The contract will be reviewed and potentially increase to approx. 20 hours a week.
  • This is a contract position. The candidate will be responsible for their own GST or other applicable tax remittance, as well as their own insurances.
  • This could be an entry-level job, contract fees commensurate with experience, beginning at $25/hr, but negotiable.
  • Training on WPTS operations will be available.
  • Depending on special events, volunteer availability, deadlines etc. there may be some times that are busier than others.

Candidate should have the ability and willingness to accommodate these times as well as:

  • Occasional weekend days (approx. four hours per month).
  • Occasional evenings for meetings.
  • We are a work from home bring-your-own-device environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for meeting and special events.

Successful candidates are required to complete a criminal background check including the vulnerable sector.
