Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

Through live orchestral music, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s purpose is to welcome people together and inspire our communities. Our vision is that the Calgary Phil belongs to everyone. The Calgary Phil will celebrate 70 years as a pillar of Calgary’s vibrant arts community in 2025. Our Orchestra consists of 66 full-time musicians, 30 full-time staff, and 248 volunteers (including Board Members). In addition to 66 orchestra musicians, the Calgary Phil is one of two major symphony orchestras in Canada that has its own chorus of over 120 volunteer singers, which celebrated 60 years in 2023. Together, we perform more than 100 concerts over a 10-month period to over 100,000 people, strengthening the cultural experience of our communities, supporting downtown revitalization, and making significant direct and indirect economic contributions. We are the resident orchestra for Calgary Opera, Alberta Ballet’s Nutcracker, and Honens International Piano Competition.

Led by Music Director Rune Bergmann, the Orchestra presents classical standards, pop favourites, bold collaborations, and cutting-edge new works, and attracts world-renowned guest artists and dynamic conductors. The Calgary Phil recognizes the responsibilities we have to our communities and presents free outreach concerts performed outside the concert hall; education concerts to schools in Calgary and beyond, and runs a free after-school music education program PhilKids for children in underserved neighbourhoods.
