Lanre Ajayi explores this new, fun-filled festival at its inaugural celebration
Calgary needs more excuses to have a good giggle, and the Pumphouse Theatre, in partnership with the Calgary Clown Society, has decided to do something about it.
Lanre Ajayi swung by the brand-new Calgary Clown Festival to learn, laugh, and explore.
“This event is a real opportunity to introduce Calgary to the not-so-serious art of clowning and challenge the perception of what clowning is,” explains Ajayi.
Showcasing the rich and talented community of artists with local ties, Canada’s own clowns of horror Mump & Smoot headlined this inaugural lineup with their classic show Something.
“This is our first year for the Clown Festival,” says Creative Director Chris Gamble. “And we have partnered with the Pumphouse Theatre and the Calgary Clown Society to bring four days of laughter and love to this city.”
Tune into My City Speaks To Me as it explores the theatre itself, speaks to the performers, and has a few laughs.
