Cesar Cala
Community builder, activist, grandfather, and all-around great person shares his story
Working to make life better for all Calgarians, community developer Cesar Cala believes in the power of ordinary people making extraordinary change.
“I have been—we have been—in Canada for more than 20 years. We being Marichu and our family. We are both active in the community sector in Calgary, and Alberta, and in Canada as well,” he says. “I have been working in the non-profit world for as many years as we’ve been in Canada plus volunteering in the community and with issues that are important to us and to me personally.
“I am a firm believer in the power of ordinary people in their communities.”
Cala has worked and volunteered for organizations like Oxfam-Canada, the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary, Citizen Artists YYC, Calgary Arts Development, and ActionDignity, and has been involved in local initiatives like Calgary Vital Signs, grassroots grant making, cross-cultural dialogue, and community organizing.
Tune into this week’s Storytelling Podcast to hear more about his work in anti-racism, community building, and the opportunities artists and creatives play in this historical moment.
