Leighton Art Centre

My City Speaks To Me heads to the Foothills for a socially distanced tour

In exploring the creative world and living a creative life, Lanre Ajayi takes on a piece of Alberta’s history.

The Leighton Art Centre is situated in A.C. and Barbara Leighton’s original home. It’s an art gallery, museum, and arts education centre located on 80 acres of land just outside of Calgary. Now a provincially designated Historic Resource, this unique arts and crafts inspired home was designed by A.C. Leighton in the 1950s and boasts some of the most breathtaking mountain views in Southern Alberta.

“Leighton Art Centre is a place that connects you to art, history, landscape, and a legacy of Alberta’s art pioneers,” says Ajayi. “In keeping up and respecting A.C. and Barbara Leighton’s legacy, it values creativity, relationships, learning, and the aesthetic experience. The Leighton Art Centre offers unique and a wide variety of activities such as workshops, talks, and informational sessions throughout the year.”
