Explore Log Jam with artist Tim Knowles
Join artist Tim Knowles for an outdoor walking tour of Log Jam, his new public art project at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary.
Log Jam is a functional public art project — part bridge, part flood control mechanism. It allows visitors to cross over a stream to the island in the northeastern section of the park. The project materials incorporate lumber sourced from naturally fallen trees, machined timber and tree trunks that had to be cleared from the path of the new water channel. The design mirrors the way in which fallen trees are sometimes adopted as crossings by both humans and wildlife.
Two walking tour opportunities with the artist are available: Friday, October 20, 2023 from 3 – 4pm, and Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 10 – 11am. Advance registration is required.
This project was developed by The City of Calgary as part of the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary Reconnection Project, an initiative to revitalize the ecosystems in the sanctuary by restoring and protecting sensitive wildlife habitats. Artist Tim Knowles worked with the city’s project team over three years to develop a strategy to reconnect the lagoon to the Bow River and create a new crossing point for park visitors.
This event is free, but space is limited! Please register to guarantee your spot.
