Celebrate the arts with Mayor Gondek on November 4

(Calgary AB) – Calgary Arts Development and the Office of the Mayor welcome Calgary’s business and arts communities to the inaugural Celebration for the Arts hosted by Mayor Gondek. Previously known as the Mayor’s Lunch for Arts Champions, this reimagined celebration takes place from 6:30 –10:30pm on Friday, November 4 in the lobby and onstage at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Arts Commons. Tickets for the event are $65 (regular) and $37.50 (artists) and can be purchased at www.artscommons.ca/whats-on/celebration-for-the-arts.
This event is made possible through the support of Champion Partner Rozsa Foundation; Artist Showcase Partner Calgary Foundation; Venue Partner and After Party Sponsor Arts Commons; Accessibility Sponsors Bird Creatives and Calgary Downtown Association; VIP Sponsors Calgary Arts Foundation, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and Calgary Economic Development; and Patrons Calgary Hotel Association, DIALOG and Kasian Architecture.

Hosted by Tim Tamashiro the onstage celebration includes performances by artists and community groups such as the Tim Tamashiro Quartet, Tryzub Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, Revv 52, the Young Canadians, Kantorei Choir, Sankofa Arts and Music Foundation, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Poet Laureate Wakefield Brewster and more.
The onstage celebration also recognizes recipients of this year’s Cultural Leaders Legacy Arts Awards. A legacy of Calgary’s year as a Cultural Capital of Canada, each award is funded by a contribution from a local philanthropist or organization with equal matching money from Calgary Arts Development. These awards are $5,000 cash prizes that support artists or arts organizations including:
- ATB Financial Healing Through the Arts Award
- Calgary Catholic Immigration Society New Canadian Artist Award
- Doug and Lois Mitchell Outstanding Calgary Artist Award
- Mamdani Arts Leadership Award
- RBC Emerging Artist Award
- Rozsa Foundation Emerging Arts Manager Award
- SANDSTONE City Builder Award
- Indigenous Artist Award, sponsored by TD Bank Group
The onstage portion of the event is followed by an after party, completing the celebration in the Jack Singer lobby with food, entertainment, a deejay and dancing.
