The Program

The Art Bus program helps bring public art into a variety of areas and communities throughout the city by inviting artists to use a public transit bus as their canvas. The program launched in 2024, with seven artists each creating a new original artwork to wrap on one of seven Calgary transit buses for approximately three months starting in September.

In 2025, the program expanded to to include 14 buses — seven artists each create an original artwork to be wrapped on two buses. These buses will be on the streets starting in late May 2025 and running throughout the summer, with a public celebration scheduled for June 11, 2025 (details coming soon). In addition to the exterior bus wrapping, panels on the inside of the bus will share information about the artist and show some of their pre-existing artworks.

This temporary public art project provides opportunities for artists, offers an engaging visual art experience for citizens, and celebrates Calgary’s cultures, communities, histories, geography and diversity.
