Riel Manywounds

Public Art Project Lead

Riel Manywounds is from Tsuut’ina Nation and Nak’azdli Whut’en Nation.

My grandmother on my mother’s side was originally from Siksika so I am also part Blackfoot. I am Dene from the Manywounds family in Tsuut’ina and grateful to have also grown up Dakelh in my father’s community. I am a solo caregiver and mother of two incredibly beautiful children named Shine and Pamela. I have been back in Tsuut’ina now for 12 years and working in my community for almost 9 years as Youth Program Coordinator. I started working with the city six years ago in arts administration and now, I am very honoured to be a public art project lead for Tsuut’ina and Calgary Arts Development. I cannot wait to strengthen relationships with the city, build new connections and develop new traditions in the effort of inclusive public art. Only together can we learn how to better live in reconciliation.
