Cornerstone Program 2015
As with all sectors, there are certain organizations that have a history of programming that contributes to our city’s identity locally, regionally and internationally. They are often of a certain scale, and they demonstrate the capacity and intention to take on active roles as leaders and mentors to their peers and others in the community.
Within the arts sector we call these the Cornerstone Companies. Our Cornerstone Companies remind us, and help tell the world, who we are as a community and how arts contribute meaningfully to building our great city.
Calgary Arts Development is pleased to announce the organizations identified through the 2015 Cornerstone Program:
Alberta Ballet ($204,000)
Alberta Theatre Projects ($285,000)
Calgary Opera ($204,000)
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra ($290,000)
Folk Festival ($90,000)
Glenbow ($135,000)
National Music Centre ($55,000)
One Yellow Rabbit ($75,000)
Theatre Calgary ($290,000)
Theatre Junction ($77,000)
These companies have proven track records in the areas of artistic and community impact. They contribute to all five dimensions of our city’s arts plan Living a Creative Life, which are:
- Youth & Education: Calgary’s youth become highly engaged and innovative citizens as they connect with their communities through the arts.
- Creative Communities: Calgary’s communities enjoy access to a rich spectrum of arts experiences.
- Centre City Arts District: Calgary’s City Centre radiates creative energy from the core out, making it a destination for Calgarians and visitors alike.
- Artistic Exchange: Calgary is regarded as a world-class city because its artists, arts organizations and presenters import and export the highest quality of work on regional, national and international markets.
- Arts Incubation: Calgary strongly attracts artistic talent to live, work and achieve artistic excellence.
Look forward to more information on how the Cornerstone Companies will work with Calgary Arts Development in the new year.
Operational funding for these organizations will be set at their 2014 levels until 2018.
