Join us in celebrating the vibrant literary talent in Calgary by nominating a deserving individual for the prestigious role of Calgary Poet Laureate. Established on July 26, 2011, the position is a testament to our city’s commitment to the arts, supported by dedicated Calgary Poet Laureate Ambassadors, the Calgary Foundation and the Calgary Public Library.
Administered by Calgary Arts Development in collaboration with a volunteer selection committee, each Calgary Poet Laureate serves a two-year term. This artistic ambassador role involves presenting at civic events and creating literary works that capture the essence of our city and its diverse citizens.

Timeline
- January 13, 2026: Nominations open
- February 13, 2026: Nominations close
- February 16 – 27, 2026: Selection committee reviews nomination packages and determines shortlist
- Week of March 9, 2026: Shortlist nominees notified and scheduled for interviews and presentations, then selection committee makes final decision
- March 16, 2026: All nominees notified of final Poet Laureate decision
- By April 30, 2026: Calgary Poet Laureate announced
