The Program
The Open Spaces program provides exhibition space to local and regional artists while enlivening the Centre Street LRT platform on 7 Ave. between Centre Street and 1 St. SE. Two large display windows on the exterior of the Telus Convention Centre are updated with new exhibits regularly throughout the year.
This year, Open Spaces is partnering with the Women’s Centre of Calgary to present work by artists from its artist-in-residence program. The exhibitions will highlight women’s and gender-diverse perspectives while advancing shared commitments to equity, inclusion and community connection through public art.
Open Spaces partners with different organizations to highlight diverse artistic voices and connect communities through public art. Past partnerships include the Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation (ICAI) and the National accessArts Centre (NaAC).
The program started in 2009 and was previously run by the City of Calgary. Find more information about the history of Open Spaces here.
