The Program
The Open Spaces program provides exhibition space to local and regional artists while enlivening the Centre Street LRT platform on 7 Ave. between Centre Street and 1 St. SE. Two large display windows on the exterior of the Telus Convention Centre are updated with new exhibits regularly throughout the year.
Since 2023, Open Spaces has partnered with different organizations to highlight diverse artistic voices and connect communities through public art. Past partnerships include the Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation (ICAI), showcasing newcomer artists, and the National accessArts Centre (NaAC), increasing the visibility of artists with disabilities.
The program started in 2009 and was previously run by the City of Calgary. Find more information about the history of Open Spaces here.
