Poet Laureate Nominations
Nominate an Outstanding Calgary Poet before March 20, 2020
It’s the time again! As Sheri-D Wilson’s two-year term comes to an end, Calgary Poet Laureate nominations are open!
The position is currently funded by three ambassadors, Calgary Foundation, Brookfield Residential, and Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and is a legacy of Calgary 2012. If you are thinking of submitting a nomination, there are a few things you will want to consider when getting your nomination package together.
Remember to leave yourself lots of time to prep to avoid the last minute rush. The system may take a minute to upload the nomination form and necessary attachments, so leave yourself lots of time.
In the case of a technical error during your submission upload, remember to follow-up with myself at kaley.beisiegel@calgaryartsdevelopment.com if you don’t get a confirmation email within a week of your submission. If the submission does not load successfully, I have no way of knowing it is missing and this may result in your nomination not being considered for the position.
Once everything is entered, push the send button once and wait for the page to reload. A green dialog box will appear under the submit tab if there are no errors. Depending on your file sizes, uploading may take a few moments.
How do you submit a strong nomination? While self-nominations are allowed, it is always great to have someone you respect speak highly of your work and suitability for the role. Remember, read the guidelines carefully and speak to the eligibility criteria. Also, please take a close look at the roles and responsibilities section to ensure you are able to commit to this very public position.

Kaley Beisiegel
joined the Calgary Arts Development team in March 2015. In addition to writing and performing her own music as Kaley Bird, Kaley is an active arts manager and advocate.
After touring across Canada as an independent musician and graduating from Grant MacEwan University in Arts and Cultural Management, Kaley directed and produced the inaugural year of Edmonton’s SOS Fest in 2010. Since then, she has worked for a number of arts organizations and initiatives, including serving as the Marketing Coordinator for the Art Gallery of Alberta as well as the Season Manager and Festival Director for the Edmonton Chamber Music Society.
